Junkk.com promotes fun, reward-based e-practices, sharing oodles of info in objective, balanced ways. But we do have personal opinions, too! Hence this slightly ‘off of site, top of mind' blog by Junkk Male Peter. Hopefully still more ‘concerned mates’ than 'do this... or else' nannies, with critiques seen as constructive or of a more eyebrow-twitching ‘Oh, really?!' variety. Little that’s green can be viewed only in black and white.

I read this and am appalled
I just wonder how much of one's donation goes to a 'senior climate change analyst'.
Sorry to be flip, but really.
The other bit is bad too, but I wonder if it would not be something best left to others to discover, prove share and comment upon.
Oo, I don't know. Like the Government? The EU? The media?
File and forget. At least a column was filled, allegedly.

I believe in freedom of speech. But I also don't like bullies on blogs, even verbal ones, as they can drive away those with something valid to say... or offer.
Subjective is fine, but well argued and substantiated is even better. Calm and polite tops. Anything that crosses my personal line will not go up. There may be reasons given, but not guaranteed.
I'm not too keen on 'Anon' as a handle (and the content usually explains why), so if that's what you opt for it may not make it. Sorry.
I too am appalled at this. I'm sure I recollect reading somewhere that all major UK companies were reporting their CO2 emissions to a defined standard (maybe set by the EU?), but this implies that the 'established standards' are not the same for all of the big boys on the global industrial playing field.
ReplyDeleteSo .... Who sets these standards? Where are they defined? Who audits (if at all) the stated emission reports? And why oh why is disclosure 'entirely voluntary'? This opens up a huge can of worms and raises multiple issues that globally affects all humanity.
One possible slightly positive aspect though - if it is true that the top UK companies DO account for 12% to 15% of global CO2 emissions it certainly puts a very big spike into the much vaunted argument that 'it doesn't matter if the UK reduces emissions, the USA, India and China emit that much that anything we do will make no difference'.
