Junkk.com promotes fun, reward-based e-practices, sharing oodles of info in objective, balanced ways. But we do have personal opinions, too! Hence this slightly ‘off of site, top of mind' blog by Junkk Male Peter. Hopefully still more ‘concerned mates’ than 'do this... or else' nannies, with critiques seen as constructive or of a more eyebrow-twitching ‘Oh, really?!' variety. Little that’s green can be viewed only in black and white.

Telegraph - Low energy lightbulbs mailed to British families that cannot use them - Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the box-ticking system, really. Maybe we should set up 'bulb swaps' where people could exchange a bayonet for a screw fitting, and vice versa.
prNewswire - Life-cycle Assessment Proves How Environmentally Friendly LED Lamps Are - two wind-up lanterns for camping... tick. £15 for one LED branded GU10 vs. £1.50 for a 2-pack old style, energy gobbler, when I rarely use them..... dilemma!

I believe in freedom of speech. But I also don't like bullies on blogs, even verbal ones, as they can drive away those with something valid to say... or offer.
Subjective is fine, but well argued and substantiated is even better. Calm and polite tops. Anything that crosses my personal line will not go up. There may be reasons given, but not guaranteed.
I'm not too keen on 'Anon' as a handle (and the content usually explains why), so if that's what you opt for it may not make it. Sorry.
I've just installed the first lighting circuit in the new office we are building inside our industrial unit. Have put in 12Volt MR16 LEDs which only consume 2 watts each! Five of these produce as much light as a 100 watt bulb! And the life expectancy is 100,000 hours plus!
ReplyDeleteThese have just got to be the future of all lighting, domestic and commercial. The only downside is that they are not exactly cheap, but I guess prices will drop significantly as production scales up.
I've just started to put LED lights in around my house. The initial cost is going to be more but in the long run I think it will be more cost effective.
