Junkk.com promotes fun, reward-based e-practices, sharing oodles of info in objective, balanced ways. But we do have personal opinions, too! Hence this slightly ‘off of site, top of mind' blog by Junkk Male Peter. Hopefully still more ‘concerned mates’ than 'do this... or else' nannies, with critiques seen as constructive or of a more eyebrow-twitching ‘Oh, really?!' variety. Little that’s green can be viewed only in black and white.

Lovelock - all gloom and doom
"Lovelock believes global warming is now irreversible, and that nothing can prevent large parts of the planet becoming too hot to inhabit, or sinking underwater, resulting in mass migration, famine and epidemics. Britain is going to become a lifeboat for refugees from mainland Europe, so instead of wasting our time on wind turbines we need to start planning how to survive."
And I wholeheartedly agree with him on Carbon Offsetting and plastic bag bans too!
Me? I'm finishing work before 7pm for once and I'm off to the pub whilst decent beer is still an available (albeit less and less affordable) commodity! [Work has always been the curse of the drinking class!]
Addendum:
Some interesting letters in response in Tuesday's Guardian.
Addendum 2 (from Junkk Male): Lighten up, Lovelock

I believe in freedom of speech. But I also don't like bullies on blogs, even verbal ones, as they can drive away those with something valid to say... or offer.
Subjective is fine, but well argued and substantiated is even better. Calm and polite tops. Anything that crosses my personal line will not go up. There may be reasons given, but not guaranteed.
I'm not too keen on 'Anon' as a handle (and the content usually explains why), so if that's what you opt for it may not make it. Sorry.
I didn't know what to do... or say about this piece.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly a rallying call for those trying to avoid what might be bearing down. More an excuse for hedonistic excess on a par with any movie/TV show on the last days of collapsing civilisations.
I am afraid I found it rather came across as 'I told ya so! And as I am old enough to be long gone when the sh*t hits the fan I guess I'll just lie back and enjoy the proceeds of being right'.
Now, the question is, do I continue in a rather difficult campaign of encouraging moderation/mitigation, or do I open the Restaurant at the End of the Universe whilst building a heavily-defended Ark to flog tickets for the Apocalyspe Cruise to those with anything left I may deem of value to buy a slot on board?
Tricky. Maybe the new media ... and money... is in being eco-Nostrodamuses!
ps: Welcome back. Good to have you back on (this) board. Hope the show went well.
