RE:USE 'EXCHANGE' SITES

Got something that's too good for the skip but not going to get a bean on eBay? And at last has filled the last iota of space in the loft? Give it away! What you need is a nice e-way to do it.

There are LOTS. And as most, if not all, are free, I think it's worth giving 'em all a go.

Junkk.com's JunkkYard - a bit buried away, but does have some nice features. As you need to be registered, and that involved your postcode, it will tell you how far away 'it' is. Which can be handy. And you can select the radius of how far you want to travel.

Guardian -  Accusations of very tight control split UK recycling network from US parent - Blimey, who would have imagined a free reuse initiative could end up so 'political'. Good job Junkk is benign... {Homer growl} for now:) Actually, as JunkkYard is pretty much left up to the users, I'd be hard pressed to figure how I'd influence anything. Maybe I should, as it is kinda languishing.

But it seems some just can't resist trying to 'take control', and that is not my style.

It can't hurt to remind ourselves that JunkkYard exists, but mainly to get this on the homepage for a while as well.

As I say in the description, what tragic back story exists to these items being so casually thrown away I don't know, or want to, but fro once my wife was approving my coming back with more from the skip than I took to it.

PR COVERAGE - National Geographic 'Green' Special

This house is stacked to the gunnels with National Geographic Magazines. So many, in fact, that I must confess that not all have been read, though the unfailingly gorgeous photo essays have all been perused.

So imagine my (happy) surprise to be leafing through a 'green' special, and find that Junkk.com has been listed in a top 10 'waste not' collation of sites.

Mainly for our efforts in the area covered by JunkkYard, which is not as great as we'd hope(d), but another welcome bit of recognition and endorsement nonetheless.

JUNKKYARD - Odd post - Box clever

Sadly, I have allowed JunkkYard to wallow.

This on top of never really seeing its potential way back when Junkk was first designed, over a decade ago.

That honour goes to Deron Beal, I think, but what has transpired since makes it all rather murky.

Anyway, I just wanted to make a pitch for how useful it can still be.

So if you are near Hereford and need a bunch of boxes, have I found a mother lode for you:)

What went wrong with Freecycle in the UK?

I have to say I never really had a problem with it, but must confess that, being at the junction of three counties, gave up paying much attention (and hence using) having joined the three groups that this geographical location necessitated (JunkkYard being radial and without limit).

The emails and posts first got side-directed... and then ignored.

Plus I also never quite 'got' the model, which seem to rely on volunteers to run it, but then, as suggested here, seemed to have a board running... meddling with... the show, and seemingly trying it figure out how to make money on top.

Anyway, I'll top up the Category next, though cranking an eyebrow at 'you can't keep taking without giving' on the, new 'musty' non-autocratic front.

Here, we kinda err on 'so long as it is genuinely helping the planet, and all sides are cool on the deal... knock yourselves out'. But that's just us.
