EVENT - Health, Wealth and Green Living - The Courtyard Hereford - 6 May

I should mention that Junkk.com will have a stand, which will look pretty much like the last time we were there:

Certainly caught the eye of event guest Vince Cable, MP.

There will be new 'reuse' ideas on display of course.

It is also a business networking event, so this time our main thrust will be to seek partnerships to turn creative second use concepts into viable, sustainable profit centres.

We're especially interested to chat with social enterprises with workforces keen and/or skilled in arts & crafts, to look at synergies for mutual reward. Plus funding agencies or those with complementary talents, such as marketing, sales, business, etc.

WHATHealth, Wealth and Green Living - Greenlinks Green Biz Event with H&W Chamber of Commerce

Now that the last obstacle to electrifying our transport system has been removed, we are on the brink of a transport revolution - and the implications for both individuals and businesses are enormous.
Come and find out what the issues are, and take a look at some of the exciting new designs of electric cars which are about to take over transport in the future!

Like, Total...er..Packaging, man

Just dashing out the door for my second day at the show.

Already a bit exhausted as I'm trying to squeeze a Junkk.com day in at the beginning before I leave and at the end when I get back.

So far, so good. Which is why I'm going back.

There has been a good reception for RE:tie so far. No chequebooks being whipped out, but better than nothing. Unilever seemed more than interested.

The show itself is vast, and gives one a whole new perspective on the industry behind packaging. And just what goes into that bottle, cap and even label.

I have met some nice guys and gals from many aspects of the industry, and have been pleasantly surprised how happy to engage they are... even the media! I guess Junkk.com and RE:tie are not exactly bad for their businesses, so perhaps it's no surprise.

Today I intend to hit some seminars, but am not too hopeful. They tend to be dead boring anyway, so I am trying to score the PDFs of the slides and scoot through here at leisure. Plus the only real value is pouncing on the speaker. This may be more possible as they are quite small (the seminars, not the speakers), and open sided. And it looks like they are happy to hang about and chat.

So... gotta dash!

Swiss Adventure

Just to let you know that I will be blogging off shortly for a while in Switzerland to attend the 35th International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products in Geneva. I think we'll call it the Geneva Invention Show from hereon in.

I am exhibiting an actual invention I have patented called the RE:Tie, which was inspired by Junkk.com and is a unique (I hope), new (I trust), solution (bank balance at the ready, fingers crossed) to offer packagers/fmcg manufacturers/retailers a way to offer a second use for an aspect of their packs to consumers to boost sales, offer better PR, make 'em smug at CSR report time during the AGM and, oh, I don't know, help save the planet, too.

Wish me luck!

Back Monday, whereupon I promptly disappear off again to London to speak at another invention 'do', this time the Global Women's Inventor & Innovator Network Awards at the DTI

Some of us just have more access than others

As I'm pondering democracy, I happened across this from Bad Science: The Price Is Wrong

I was going to post my thoughts, but one thing I have noticed is that these guys are very highbrow and while not rude, rather dismissive of those not within the halls of academe. A shame, as I think a lot more could be achieved by engaging with interested ams like me. So I'll keep it here.

The thread is in fact about academic journals, and the charging policies vs. free access that applies.

I was going to pitch in and add that it can be a similar situation with the environment. Not just with information, but also conferences, etc.

Some of the costs to know and share stuff can be prohibitive if you are not a major commercial or funded GO3, which creates a gap between those who can afford to be 'in', and those who may have a lot to contribute and are priced 'out'. So policy can often go in directions that is not reflected by the views and contribution of a truly representative whole.

Everyone's (still) talking at me, but I can't (be bothered to listen, let alone) hear a(ny more) word(s) they're saying (...again)

It's the new year!

Let's talk conferences. Not just ways to meet and talk, but also make money meeting and talking. As to actually doing anything, well...

Sorry, I'm jaded.

Here's the first of what will be many, but it's a goodie:

BP, Ford, Ben & Jerry's, Stop Climate Chaos, and others talking climate change 7-8 March in London

Dear Colleague,

Everyone is talking - if not going - carbon neutral. At least that's the way it seems. "Carbon neutral" was recently named Word [or two words, or phrase, shouldn't that be?] of the Year [that, or rather they, say a lot right there] for 2006 by The New Oxford American Dictionary.

Looking back, last year may end up remembered as the year that climate change went "mainstream," catapulted to the spotlight by major media outlets around the globe. And if 2006 was the Year of acknowledging climate change, it's time to make 2007 the Year of communicating AND acting on climate change.

Yaaaay, and this will cost me...how much?

I got to '...and to take advantage of the £100 early registration discount.' and gave up. That means they want at least £1k to talk some more.

Talk... about a waste.
