Going to waste

Sorry, I meant going into waste: Defra to get £4 billion a year by 2010

Preventing it, that is. Not meeting targets, hiring countless measuring monkeys or anything.

Because... all together now... 'we need to act now if we are to avoid dangerous climate change'.

My enviROI+ antennae are twitching!

Peter,

"The Government will spend £400 million in the next three years combating climate change" says the blurb. If I may be permitted a wry rather than analytical commment: I assume that this money will be spent opposing the Department for Transport?

Despite all the usual Stern and action now stuff also quoted, the recent budget report offers nothing more than a modest reform of air passenger duty in two years' time. 400 million over three years is about the same as two litres of petrol per person per year. Not really grappling with the scale of the problem, is it?

As always, you put the realities of the actual, tangible figures in stark contrast to the words meant to 'enhance' them.

Let's see if and how this gets shared with us in other media.

Nice letter in the Indy today, by the way.
