Guardian - Activists slam changes to green grants - Isn't a BERR an irritating thing that sticks to you to spread everywhere? The enviROI of the investment into the department vs. the benefit out would seem... less than optimal.

Fine, maybe. But let's not forget.
The EU's Renewables Directive: unworkable and costly
Slightly O/T but related, as I read this at the same time as my council may have to dip into my wallet to pay for the landfill misses.
Just how many 'targets' are there, irrespective of any actual value they may have as an actual enviROI that helps my kids' futures, that 'we', the tax/ratepayer have been set up to fund the fines for? By whom? And where does this protection racket money go to if (no doubt) and when paid over by those who arranged it all on our behalves?

Little fleas
The lobby in our house is where no one actually stays longer than they need to.
It merely a gateway to another place, offering a brief interlude between being on the inside and the outside. Hence it is merely functional, usually a bit dusty, prone to draughts and not my favourite place.
I ponder this as I stood in the lobby of the Houses of Parliament during a tour, and learned that the verb came from the noun, as this was where people sought, and seek to influence those in power.
Government ordered to disclose business lobbying on green policy
Just as there will always be politics when you have more than two folk vying for position, it is foolish to think that, where money is involved, there will no be all manner of shenanigans in trying to sway a decision. And, in a democracy, there can be no restriction on any and all people's rights to make their case.
But what I see in the name of 'lobbying' today is a complete corruption of the fair principles originally intended. As this case lays bare.
Nice one, FoE. Respec'. Mind you, it might all just drive the SOSO sods underground.

Government ignores energy-efficiency policy
It would be interesting, if likely depressing, to get a handle on the sheer number of well staffed gov. departmental and quango empires there are, plus massive associated comms budgets, deployed in 'environmental' pursuits, and what the actual enviROI the public and planet derives from them. Especially, as suggested here, many are either overlapping or even competing.
