A nice chap in an earlier discussion about our woeful national coordination of anything to prevent waste sent me a discussion piece.
I just want to share this from its midst, as I'd heard of it before and now see it in all it's... unfortunate... glory:
"Toyota are now using the knowledge gained through their production system to deliver more sustainable(higher quality) corporate facilities at zero extra cost.
In 1984 the DTI arranged a ‘mission to Japan’ and asked why they let us look at their factories, the Japanese said “because you are already ten years behind and anyway we know you won’t do it!’
Just how did this country get Great again?
Junkk.com promotes fun, reward-based e-practices, sharing oodles of info in objective, balanced ways. But we do have personal opinions, too! Hence this slightly ‘off of site, top of mind' blog by Junkk Male Peter. Hopefully still more ‘concerned mates’ than 'do this... or else' nannies, with critiques seen as constructive or of a more eyebrow-twitching ‘Oh, really?!' variety. Little that’s green can be viewed only in black and white.

What's better than waste? Duplicated waste!
Government ignores energy-efficiency policy
It would be interesting, if likely depressing, to get a handle on the sheer number of well staffed gov. departmental and quango empires there are, plus massive associated comms budgets, deployed in 'environmental' pursuits, and what the actual enviROI the public and planet derives from them. Especially, as suggested here, many are either overlapping or even competing.

DTI, huh, what is it good for? Absolutely...
(to the music of Edwin Starr)
I was just passing this and couldn't resist popping in.
Could the DTI face being broken up?
In light of this question - "What is the DTI for?" Asked its Head of Department in 1989: "I've got bugger all to do, and thousands of staff to help me do it." - and the fact I for one can't see how much has changed since then, I have to ask if the headline question was posed in any way as it should be.
'Can the DTI avoid being erased for the sorry money pit it was, is and always will be', would be more like it.
