Top companies 'failing to report true greenhouse gas emissions'
I just wonder how much of one's donation goes to a 'senior climate change analyst'.
Sorry to be flip, but really.
The other bit is bad too, but I wonder if it would not be something best left to others to discover, prove share and comment upon.
Oo, I don't know. Like the Government? The EU? The media?
File and forget. At least a column was filled, allegedly.

I too am appalled at this. I'm sure I recollect reading somewhere that all major UK companies were reporting their CO2 emissions to a defined standard (maybe set by the EU?), but this implies that the 'established standards' are not the same for all of the big boys on the global industrial playing field.
So .... Who sets these standards? Where are they defined? Who audits (if at all) the stated emission reports? And why oh why is disclosure 'entirely voluntary'? This opens up a huge can of worms and raises multiple issues that globally affects all humanity.
One possible slightly positive aspect though - if it is true that the top UK companies DO account for 12% to 15% of global CO2 emissions it certainly puts a very big spike into the much vaunted argument that 'it doesn't matter if the UK reduces emissions, the USA, India and China emit that much that anything we do will make no difference'.
