Junkk.com promotes fun, reward-based e-practices, sharing oodles of info in objective, balanced ways. But we do have personal opinions, too! Hence this slightly ‘off of site, top of mind' blog by Junkk Male Peter. Hopefully still more ‘concerned mates’ than 'do this... or else' nannies, with critiques seen as constructive or of a more eyebrow-twitching ‘Oh, really?!' variety. Little that’s green can be viewed only in black and white.
Concentrated solar is definitely a good prospect going forward - existing setups suffer from requiring many acres of flat land - but this one looks very intriguing, and potentially (at 1$ per watt according to their website) a much cheaper alternative form. Interesting that the PR all claims '400 times more' yet their own FAQ's claim '300 to 400 times more'. Like you though, I have to crank my eyebrow at such a claim, especially as their technology pages suggest that they are going to have to water cool the photovoltaic cells. Keeping water cool enough to cool down something inside something else exposed to potential temperatures of several 100 degrees sounds quite a challenge!
